I’m sitting here, eating some Damn Fine Coffee Heath Bar Crunch, thinking, “What should I post about?” Naturally, the wonderous state that is Alaska came to mind.
I’ve been living here for, oh, 3 years just about. Yes, it’s cold. No, it’s not sunny/dark all the time. I live in Anchorage. In more northern areas of AK, there are periods of 24 hour daylight/lack thereof. However, it’s not just 6 months of light, 6 of not. It gradually increases, then gradually decreases. For instance, today, the sun rises at 10:08am and sets at 4:05p. Tomorrow, 10:06a, 4:07p. I LOVE having 20 hours of sunlight, not gonna lie. I like being able to go for a run in full daylight at 12a. I do not like 5 hours of daylight. It’s depressing. Some days, I just want to stay in bed, all day. I know of things like Happy Lamps, but eh, I won’t be here forever. In fact, we are set to leave anywhere from 3 weeks from now (fingers crossed!) to 3 months (ugh).
Enough talk! Here are some pictures! These are all from before I properly learned how to use my DSLR. I have always shot in Manual, but I haven’t always done it well.

Here we go, here’s a good one. My husband, Luke, grilling in the snow in February.

Lydia and I on a trail. It’s too bad the picture wasn’t properly exposed for the mountains and sky.

Thunderbird Falls

I thought this was cute.

On top of Flattop Mountain

One of the few (only?!) pictures of the three of us. Lydia was only a few months, and now, she’s almost 2 years old!

I don’t even want to talk about how awful my Aurora pictures turned out, haha. Completely out of focus, and it was pitch black of course, so I couldn’t tell.

Photographing the Aurora, no matter what your skill level/knowledge is, is like nothing else. I get so into it that I don’t even feel cold. It is just mindblowingly beautiful.
Hm, this is getting to be a bit longer than I had intended. I’ll post a continuation tomorrow.
beautiful photos and family. That’s a good man you have to grill for you in Feb!
Yessir, especially that winter, it was cold! I was pregnant, and baby needed steak!
One of my bucketlist wishes is to see the Aurora. It’s too pretty for words and I want to experience it.
